This wasn’t part of the original plan, but after some convincing by eager parents, we launched our adult beginner programming a little over a year ago, and we’re so glad we did! It soon grew to include not just our Impact families, but adults of all ages, with children and without.
Skateboarding has something for everyone, and what we hear from a lot of the new skaters is that the challenge and potential danger of skateboarding requires such intense focus, that other thoughts/worries/cares take a back seat for the duration of the session. There’s a kind of tunnel-vision that happens, and an exhilaration that we experienced skaters know well, but perhaps take for granted at times.
Here’s our current adult group, and as usual, they’re progressing so quickly! It’s seriously inspiring to see these folks take on something completely new (and kind of terrifying), and give it their all. They learn about riding a board, as well as what it means to be part of a version of skateboard culture that is for EVERYONE.
We have certain responsibilities as skaters to pave the way for the next person, and being useful and effective stewards of the community is a huge part of what Impact is all about. Absolutely stoked, and so grateful for each and every one of these guys and ladies for capturing that spirit and carrying it forward!
